The Intel flaw is causing a very big headache
Apple has confirmed that all its iPad, iPhone and MacBook variants are susceptible to the Intel chip flaws known as ‘Meltdown’ and ‘Spectre’.
“These issues apply to all modern processors and affect nearly all computing devices and operating systems. All Mac systems and iOS devices are affected, but there are no known exploits impacting customers at this time. Since exploiting many of these issues requires a malicious app to be loaded on your Mac or iOS device, we recommend downloading software only from trusted sources such as the App Store.”
According to Apple there are no known affected users right now but it will implement an update very soon to try and patch any holes in the Safari browser at least. So when you get this update notification make sure you update it.
The other issue for Apple and every other manufacturer using Intel chips is that the fix to these two flaws is actually going to slow down devices by reportedly up to 50%. In Apple’s case this time they can actually say it wasn’t them.
This story is not going away anytime soon, so just remember to update all your devices, Windows, iOS, Android when you see any system update notification popping up.
