Climate Change will make impossible for baby lobsters to survive because the ocean’s water will be too hot. According to a new study by scientists at the University of Maine Darling Marine Center and Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, lobsters could be in danger.
Researchers said that if the temperature of the water will rise by 5 degrees Fahrenheit more than it is at the moment, the baby lobsters will have no chance to survive. According to United Nations, the temperatures will warm to 5 degrees by 2100. The baby lobsters are already having problems with the water temperature and their lives will be in danger because of the climate change.
Jesica Waller, one of the authors of the study, said that they are hoping this research will raise awareness regarding the baby lobsters. There must be some changes to help them. At the moment, lobsters are one of the most popular seafood products in the United States. Their prices are expensive, but people enjoy eating them. Moreover, there are new markets in Asia, where people seem to be more interested in finding out why Americans love to eat lobsters.
In the last seven years, fishermen caught 100 million pounds of lobster, which means half billion of dollars in value. As you can see, there are a lot of people who have an income due to lobsters and if they will not survive, our economy will be in danger.
Moreover, the real problem is that climate change is a threat to so many creatures, including humans. Baby lobsters develop faster because the temperatures are rising. Even though you could think that this will help them, it seems that few are surviving against the dangers.
This is the first study that focuses on baby lobsters and the impact warmer waters have on them. It makes us realize that our oceans are changing, which means that the lives of many sea creatures are in danger.
We are expecting more research in the future regarding this matter. Baby lobsters are just an example. There are many animals who suffer due to climate change. They are not able to feed as they should and some of them can’t survive at higher temperatures. Researchers are now trying to find ways to protect the baby lobsters.
